While the veteran Four Seasons on Weihai Lu, has been open for ten years now, is a paragon of class, its upstart younger sister across the river in Pudong looks to sass up the brand. Opening on Tuesday 28 August, the new Four Seasons is a departure, sharply modern in carmine and grey hues, with furniture in ebony woods and stingray leather.
Along with 187 rooms and 73 private residences, there’s an infinity pool on the 41st floor and a 24-hour fitness centre, kitted out with a ‘brine inhalation room’ just for men. Food offerings conceptualised by Hotel George V Paris’s executive chef include Camelia, an all-day restaurant, whiskey bar and wine lounge on the ground floor, and Shang-xi, a Shanghainese-Cantonese hybrid on the second.
Until the end of 2012, deluxe room specials start at 2,200RMB plus 15 per cent/night, including breakfast for two and 2,000RMB spa and dining credit.
